DISEASES

The best cure for rose diseases is prevention.  Buy good, quality, healthy stock to begin with.  If watering with overhead sprinklers do it in the morning to allow the leaves to dry before cooler temperatures set in.  Never water plants in the evening as this gives fungus a chance to develop and grow through the night.   Remove any parts of the plant suspected of being diseased.  Cut back stems 6 inches below the diseased area.  Spray with fungicides such as Captan, Benomyl or Sulfur-Copper dust or sprays.  Household disinfectant Lysol can also be used as a preventative measure to control mildew on roses, mixed at a rate of 1 ounce to 1 gallon of water.  Spray plants thoroughly once a week.
